Hygiene
Cleanliness is very important in the massage therapy field. Personal hygiene is a priority when performing massage therapy and the student is expected to be clean and well-groomed. Nails should be very short and manicured. Long hair should be pulled back and secured. Special attention to breath and body odor is required before starting each massage.
Smokers are encouraged to double their effort in this matter. Hands should be washed with antibacterial soap and sprayed with an antiseptic and antifungal spray before and after performing a massage session. If you sneeze or cough into your hands during a massage, excuse yourself and wash your hands before resuming the massage.
Hands must be washed prior to performing a massage if other body parts have been massaged first. Bandages will be worn over any injured areas on the therapist’s hands. Gloves should be worn if infection is present or if the client is very susceptible to infection.
Instructors and Students will be in close proximity to each other during class. For the purpose of disease control, students are not permitted to come to class or clinic if an illness is present, with a fever. Students who have a cold or respiratory infection with sneezing or coughing excessively, will be suggested to stay home. Your cooperation in this matter is important.
Massage equipment such as tables, lotion containers, linen and hydrotherapy tools should be cleaned after each use. Equipment should be sprayed with a disinfectant when applicable.
